The City is required to monitor its drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. During September, 2015 a routine water sample tested positive for total coliform bacteria. All follow up sampling has indicated that the water was safe and met State and Federal drinking water standards and no violation occurred.
Please be advised this is not an emergency. You do not need to boil your water or use alternative sources of water for drinking. We are required to notify the public of this situation.
Whenever a routine sample tests positive for total coliform the water supply is required to collect no less than five routine samples during the following month. Because this is such a rare event for the City, workers inadvertently overlooked the requirement to collect the extra sample. Five samples were required, four samples were taken.
The City is taking steps to ensure that all sampling is conducted properly in the future. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact DPW Director Tom Stressman at 616.696.1330 X 108.
