Since at least 2006, homes and businesses have been required to have a visible address on their home and business. The Cedar Springs City Council has recently adopted a Address Policy to formalize the size, contrast and placement of addresses for every home and business in Cedar Springs.
The basics are that every home and business must have an address number that is a minimum of 4 inches high and be visible from the street named in the address unless that street is undeveloped or poses some other difficulty.
Apartments must have the building address and apartment numbers on the common entrance door and each individual apartment must have an apartment number posted on or near the door of that apartment. Apartments accessible via exterior staircases must list the building address and apartment numbers at ground level.
Commercial, industrial and rental residential must comply with this policy by October 9th or face a municipal fine.
Single family residential must comply with this policy by December 9th or face a municipal fine.
Homes and businesses already in compliance with the policy are not required to do anything.
