City Staff have been working to develop a proposed dog park to be placed in Riggle Park. The current proposal is for the smaller of the two concepts, being approximately 85 feet wide east to west and a 150 feet long from south to north. To expand the dog park area the fence would have to encompass the half-court basketball court and would become approximately 125 feet wide east to west and would remain about 150 feet long south to north. In either case, the dog area would use about 120 feet of fencing that already exists on the east side of Riggle park.
The proposed dog park would have a double gated entrance and would have separate entrances to the smaller, young/old, gentle dog area and the general friendly well-behaved dog area. Both areas would feature objects for the dogs to sniff and picnic tables or benches for the humans to sit on. There would be a waste bag dispenser and a garbage container to dispose of the waste into.
The dog park is currently planned for free-use but its use will require certain basic rules be followed by all users, especially cleaning up your dog’s waste. Future additional plans for a dog park would include extending sidewalk from Beech and Fifth Streets so that the White Pine Trail is connected to Riggle Park and installing a doggie/human water fountain at the park.
