Are you interested in serving your community? The City of Cedar Springs currently needs one City Resident over the age of 18 to volunteer for the Zoning Board of Appeals. This board meets as needed. The function of the ZBA is to hear and decide appeals of administrative decisions made in implementing the zoning ordinance and to hear and decide requests for variances from the strict terms of the zoning ordinance. The ZBA may also be called upon to interpret provisions of the zoning ordinance.
While the zoning process is designed to balance the principles of property rights with the protection of the public interest, it has long been recognized that it is next to impossible to write a set of regulations affecting the development of land that can be universally applied. With that in mind, the State enacted legislation that provides a means for providing relief from certain requirements of the zoning ordinance through a municipality’s Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA.)
Interested individuals should fill out and return the application for boards and commissions found at http://dev.cityofcedarsprings.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/boards-and-commissions-application.pdf
